Right off the waterfront and just blocks from Millenium Park and Navy Pier, the Sheraton Grand Chicago is in the heart of it all. Working with the hospitality art consultants at Kevin Barry Art Advisory on their recent redesign of their accommodations, the property’s new artwork projects an elevated urban glamor.
Taking inspiration from the birth of the hotel’s neighborhood known as The Magnificent Mile, the design directive for the Sheraton Grand was to curate art in the style of updated Art Deco. Framed artwork in the guest rooms reflects the stately early 20th century architecture of the area and the aesthetic of the gold, geometric design popular during the 1920s-30s. Elsewhere in the guest rooms, abstract watercolor giclées in a variety of sizes feature blues and grays, imbuing the rooms with elegance and serenity.
In addition to framed artwork, KBAA custom designed a set of mirrors with captivating geometric details. Faceted and asymmetrical modern oval mirrors are paired in every guest room, adding an element of functional art to each space. In using wood, glass, and metallic surfaces, each mirror looks like a unique art piece that feels both pulled from another time and entirely modern.
