Harrisonburg, VA Collaborators P3 Design Collective Highlights Large-scale wall covering featuring First Lady Dolly Madison in conference room Project Scope Public spaces, conference rooms, restaurant space
Our art advisors worked with designers at P3 Design Collective to come up with hotel art that would tie in the history of the area as well as the proud legacy it continues as the home of JMU

To highlight the local history of the region, art pieces were sourced and designed to evoke the life and legacy of President James Madison and First Lady Dolley Madison, as well as the history of the state of Virginia. Portraits of James and Dolley Madison were printed onto silver paper to give the pieces a luminous, contemporary appearance. An aerial photo of the Madison’s home Montpelier was embellished with an oil paint effect to give it a richer, more stately and historical feel. A large printed wall piece behind the lobby’s front desk references America’s founding documents and the contributions to them made by the university’s namesake.

Known as the official hotel of James Madison University, this redesigned property is sure to help guests feel like a proud alumni just after one hotel stay.

Drawing inspiration from northern Virginia, a region with such a deep historic significance, the team at Kevin Barry Art Advisory was able to curate an art experience for guests of the Hotel Madison that feels stately and grounded in the area’s rich history while maintaining a warm, contemporary feel.
