A new resort representing a sea change in Southern California hospitality

Inspired by San Diego’s coastal bluffs, Kevin Barry Art Advisory’s curation of the new Alila Marea Beach Resort’s art program reflects the unparalleled majesty of the Southern California coast. Drawing from a palette of wood, stone, and water, our hospitality art advisors sourced simple, yet elegant art pieces that would add to the natural beauty of the area, rather than distract.

To create an arrestingly beautiful art moment just outside the hotel’s pre-function area, KBAA worked with Soffi Studio to design a custom glass wall sculptural installation. By incorporating three different sizes of glass bubbles in an organic, cascading movement across the wall, the sculpture evokes the imagery of air bubbles suspended in water. Whether you are submerging or emerging from the cool, restorative waters of your stay at Alila Marea, the bubbles are illustrative of the personal sea change that comes from a tranquil beach escape.

Within the suites, and spa area, Alila Marea’s art collection pays homage to the beauty and power of ocean waves across a variety of mediums. Artist John Johnson’s moulded resin art pieces in the hotel’s boardroom are inspired by the smoothness of rolling waves. In the spa, Laura Stewart’s layered canvas work is reminiscent of the patterns left in soft sand by the surf. Guest rooms and suites include large, framed photography of deep blue ocean waves.
