The Eddy Taproom & Hotel

A boutique hotel where ruggedness and relaxation are equally welcomed

Designed with adventurers and outdoor enthusiasts in mind, The Eddy Taproom & Hotel is a new hospitality property located in Golden, Colorado. Located less than 30 minutes outside of Denver, the hotel is perfectly poised to seize upon the increased popularity of drivable vacation destinations. To achieve a look that mixes the rugged with the upscale, our team curated an art package that can play in both spaces. 

For The Eddy’s guest rooms, KBAA selected pieces that reflect the tastes of the modern explorer. Gallery walls featuring prints of embellished historic local photography are combined with playful wildlife illustrations and geometric patterns to mix the past with the present. An abstracted call to “Make Tracks” is printed on aluminum disks found above the ensuite dry bars. Guest bathrooms include large-scale vinyl wallcoverings of black and white mountain vistas to bring in elements of the outdoors. Photography depicting Instagram-worthy camping moments can be found in the suites and corridors. 

For guests looking to plan their daily excursions, KBAA commissioned a large-scale activity board customized to the hotel’s brand identity. This functional art piece allows the hotel to keep guests apprised of everything on offer in an attractive, integrated way. Like the hotel’s room keys, the activity board tags are modeled after the miners tags used by mining crews to show who was down in the mine— a nod to the founding of the city of Golden during the Pike’s Peak Gold Rush. When guests are looking to wind down after a day of adventuring, KBAA collaborated with The Eddy to create custom labels for their house beer, Red. 

The art package for The Eddy’s public spaces includes several whimsical sculptural pieces honoring local wildlife. Visitors will find it hard to miss “Old Cannonball” the Moose, a custom created moose bust designed by native Coloradan, Andrea Lee Nelson. Inspired by a nostalgia-driven urge to reconnect to her native state, Nelson designed this moose head using fabrics printed with Southwest designs. The main fabric on the top is by Pendleton Woolen Mills, a historic Western brand.  A palette of blues and grays were selected to not only complement the hotel, but to also nod to the aqueous world of the moose.  His name is also an homage to the property’s location as he is named after Cannonball Creek (now Clear Creek), which runs alongside the hotel. Outside the hotel, a metal sculpture of a Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep is another animal friend designed to wow guests. Custom-designed by artist Randy Doering, this bighorn represents the native fauna and the thriving climbing culture of the area.
