Curating a Sense of Glamour

Set within one of Los Angeles’ most iconic neighborhoods, Cameo Beverly Hills is a hidden retreat that balances timeless glamour with modern ease. As part of Hilton’s LXR Hotels & Resorts collection, the property draws from the elegance and social spirit of Hollywood’s Golden Age. Working alongside Ashford, Premier Project Management, and LXR, KBAA developed an art program that would bring that history into the present while creating the intimacy and character of a private collection.

The legendary Pickfair estate became an important source of inspiration. Home to silent-film stars Mary Pickford and Douglas Fairbanks, the Beverly Hills residence was one of Hollywood’s most celebrated gathering places in the 1920s and 30s. Its lavish dinners, poolside parties, and international guests offered a rich starting point for a collection centered on hospitality, discovery, and the art of gathering. Rather than feeling newly assembled, the artwork throughout Cameo was curated to suggest pieces collected over a lifetime.

Throughout the public spaces, bold moments of materiality and craft bring that story to life. Nick Biddle’s trio of pigmented concave mirrors reinterpret the silver platters once used for entertaining at Pickfair, while Alan Alldredge’s shimmering work recalls the beaded gowns and draped fabrics of Hollywood’s 1920s elite. At Peruvian restaurant Zampo, a wall of 25 handcrafted ceramic vessels draws inspiration from Peru’s rich ceramic heritage, while suspended abstract works by Alyson Khan reference handmade textiles and richly dyed materials through layers of color and movement.

The storytelling becomes more intimate in the guestrooms and suites, where KBAA imagined the collection as an extension of Pickfair’s private rooms. Romantic abstractions, experimental portraiture, custom graphics, and works inspired by travel create the feeling of personal discoveries gathered over time. For artists including Caryn Baumgartner and Peggy Lee, KBAA worked closely on palette, scale, imaging, finish, and framing to thoughtfully translate existing bodies of work into the hotel environment while preserving each artist’s individual point of view.

Across Cameo Beverly Hills, expressive color, abstracted figures, and a recurring sense of movement bring energy to the collection. Works like Maja Dlugolecki’s Garden Dance recall the lively gatherings that once defined Pickfair, while quieter pieces invite guests to look closer and uncover another layer of the story. The result is a collection that feels glamorous without feeling overly polished, balancing the grandeur of Beverly Hills with the warmth and personality of a home shaped by a life well lived.
