Farmington, Pennsylvania Collaborators Moncur Design Associates Featured Artist John Johnson Project Scope Variety of art for The Chateau and The Grand Lodge
Enchanted Storytelling for a Resort Like No Other

Nemacolin is a luxury resort spanning 2,200 scenic acres in the Laurel Highlands of Pennsylvania. Independently owned and family-operated, and holding both a Forbes Five-Star and AAA Five Diamond rating, the property offers what can only be described as a singular experience for all who visit. With five distinct lodging options spread throughout the grounds, each presents its own unique point of view, all connected by the mantra of “Real Life Magic.”

KBAA partnered with the Nemacolin team and Moncur Design Associates to add depth to the resort’s art program across two on-site destinations: The Chateau and The Grand Lodge. The vision for each was to create an immersive, whimsical journey that envelops guests in a world of wonder, storybook charm, and timeless romance. From the regal grandeur of The Chateau to the rustic elegance of The Grand Lodge, each space tells its own enchanting narrative brought to life through art. The Nemacolin team chose to collaborate with us not only for our expertise, but for our ability to translate their design vision into fantastical moments that deepen the guest experience.

For our work in The Chateau, we sought to transport guests to the opulent era of 18th and 19th century France. We curated subjects that were both traditional and fantastical, including classic portraiture, textiles inspired by French aristocracy, and the gilded gates of Versailles, creating an atmosphere of romance, intrigue, and extravagance. The collection features 18th century French jesters, Toile fabrics, traditional landscapes, and period portraiture. Standout works include large pieces from the “La Mouche” series by BAHMAN, found garden prints curated by our team, custom Toile illustrations tailored to the baroque aesthetic, a gallery wall of jesters from varying eras, and a large-scale installation of found vintage teacups and saucers by John Johnson.

Stepping into The Grand Lodge, the tone shifts to something more rustic and woodsy. The space draws inspiration from the imagination and curiosity of fairytales and the wonders of the natural world, with deep-rooted stories and distinct color palettes for each guest room. Our KBAA art advisors brought this mix of folklore and whimsy to life through heirloom-like portraits and storybook-inspired landscapes. Highlights include Ben Weiler’s “Book Wall”, crafted from pages of fairytales, dreamy abstracted landscapes by Caroline Bullock, Papier-mâché animals by Muse Et Homme, and a variety of found and custom-designed pieces created by our graphics team.

Overall, working with Nemacolin was a truly special collaboration for our team. It was a joy to help bring the vision of a luxury resort unlike any other to life. To learn more about this project, dive into our Spellbound Spaces issue of ELEVATE by KBAA.
