Our art program at The Ritz-Carlton, Portland highlights Oregon’s abundance of natural beauty. Celebrating the Pacific Northwest’s enmeshment between the human and the wild, the artwork collection emphasizes earthen textures, incongruous patterns, and diverse materials. Oregon’s spirit is authentically captured through the inclusion of a myriad of local artists and through small moments referencing landmarks like the Shanghai Tunnels and Latourell Falls. The overall sensation is one that is simultaneously raw and organically luxurious, embodying Portland’s character.
This three year collaboration included approximately 50 pieces throughout public areas, and unique works throughout the 200+ guest rooms. We aimed to highlight as many local artists as possible, and with every piece, we sought out works that utilize warm, natural materials. Wood is a key element in many of our selections and custom commissions, and all pieces feature elements found in nature that are emblematic of the Portland area.
Working with Marriott’s Luxury Property team was a dream, as The Ritz-Carlton properties pride themselves on personalized services and attention to detail. Every element had to be perfectly tailored to reflect Portland, Oregon as a destination. From hand-sculpted, intricately detailed paintings, and flowers formed out of iridescent mesh: each piece has an outstanding level of attention to detail that helps to create the kind of transformative experience for which The Ritz-Carlton brand is known.
At Kevin Barry Art Advisory, we collaborate closely with our design partners to conceptualize, develop, and refine every aspect of the art program. From content that captures the essence of Portland to frame finishes, intricate details, and scale studies, the entire process was a seamless partnership between design, brand, and KBAA.
