While the term “engineered systems” might not evoke much of a visual for the average person, the story of the work that ACCO has built their reputation on for the past 80+ years is illustrated through the curatorial work of our corporate art advisors. The entryway of the main lobby starts the narrative off strong featuring a custom relief sculpture of a 1947 Chevy pick-up truck, the make and model of the trucks that ACCO used back in their early days. The nearby conference room is decorated by an illuminated map of the United States with the company’s locations indicated in circles.
The centerpiece in the entrance of the engineering floor is an art piece inspired by the code books used in the construction of HVAC systems that were used up until the dawn of the computer age. This piece is collaged with photographs of the founders standing next to one of their original air conditioning units. Printed on aluminum to honor the material that ACCO works with most, historic photographs line the hallways across the 4 ½ floors of the headquarters. Featuring recent photos of the company’s employees at work was a priority for an employee-owned business like ACCO, and our art consultants made sure to feature them prominently throughout the design to bring authenticity to the project.
