Amanda Rowan is an artist working within the genres of performance, photography, and film, currently living in Los Angeles, California. Rowans has been awarded Chromatic Photographer of the Year 2018 from the International Chromatic Photography Awards for her achievements in color photography. She graduated cum laude from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. Rowan has been commissioned to create iconic images of performers, philosophers and pop celebrities alike. Her visual style focuses on the theatrical elements in life and in the studio with an emphasis on lush color and juxtaposition. She is interested in the space between the subject and audience in her images and the inherent performance in the creation of an image.
Her images have been exhibited and published internationally at Photo LA, and Paris Photo as well as the Wall Street Gallery and the Leica Gallery in Los Angeles. Her images are part of the extensive contemporary art collection at The Palms Hotel in Las Vegas. Rowan’s photographs are on display as part of the permanent collection at the Palms along with Damien Hirst, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Andy Warhol, and Takashi Murakami.
Daughter of Grammy-winning Bluegrass and country legend, Peter Rowan, she began shooting rock concerts during high school. In 2014, she launched the project “Born Backstage”, a portrait series that chronicles artists and performers who are all the children of folk and rock legends, such as The Grateful Dead, Crosby Stills and Nash, The Beatles, Frank Zappa, and many more. Rowan’s mastery of lighting, combined with her knack for engaging with her subjects, has led to a flourishing commercial practice that translates her distinctive visual style into imagery for advertising campaigns, as well as corporate branding. Clients include Disney, NBC, HBO, and Hilton Entertainment. Her editorial portraits include global artists, performers, and pop celebrities alike.
