Artist Statement:
In the studio I paint these moments on gold and silver leaf. The leaf reflects changing light and captures ephemeral moods. After more than five years painting on gold leaf, it is still an endlessly unfolding experiment. The physical process begins with coating and sanding the canvas until it becomes a silky surface. Then I smooth on a traditional red paint, lay the gold or silver leaf, and coat it with layers of varnish. Using the finest quality sable brushes, I paint layer upon layer of paint and varnish developing
the image until it culminates in a moment of light.
