Based in the Santa Clarita Valley, Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital’s team worked with our healthcare art advisors to source and commission artwork to reflect its community. Focal pieces in the new patient tower are several large-scale custom vinyl wallcoverings designed by KBAA’s in-house design team. Each of these original works features imagery that represents the indigenous flora and fauna of the region. Serene artwork on canvas featuring biophillic imagery is also infused with representations of the local community. The result is an updated take on the traditional representations of nature found in healthcare spaces.
Considering the local community down to the individual level is at the core of this property, which is particularly evident in the outdoor courtyard mural. KBAA worked directly with local artist Frank Rock to complete a large scale mural featuring the area’s natural beauty. Frank Rock’s involvement was meaningful for both the artist and the hospital’s staff, since Rock had open heart surgery at Henry Mayo just a few years prior. Completing a mural that will help provide comfort and serenity for current and future patients was a poignant moment for all involved.
Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital is an integral part of their community, and we took care to tell that story across the walls and corridors of the hospital through healing and area-specific works of art.
