New York Fashion Week has come to a close and we\u2019re thinking about ways we can incorporate what we saw on the runway into our mood boards.<\/p>\n

Everyone has their own take on the dominant trends seen at NYFW, but here are our top four trends we spotted this past week, as well as some ideas for how to use them in interiors.<\/p>\n

Mad for Plaid<\/em><\/h2>\n

This trend has been in the forecast with the throwback to 90\u2019s fashion we\u2019ve seen recently. This season, the plaid trend is daring us to consider how versatile a pattern it can be. Sometimes seen in classic tartan tones, sometimes interweaving bright colors that make a bold statement, designers are re-imagining plaid and how to wear it.<\/p>\n

Looking for a way to plug plaid into your art for an upcoming project?<\/strong> We think that a more abstract interpretation of this trend is called for. Consider sourcing tapestry and fiber art that incorporates repeating, overlapping colors. Art installations of string art or even light sculpture can be another way to put plaid to unexpected use.<\/p>\n

Magnetically Monochromatic<\/em><\/h2>\n

Black and white is a classic that never goes out of style. If you were watching the Oscars coverage last week you probably got the feeling that monochromatic was going to be a big trend this season. Not to disappoint, NYFW runways were ruled by models in black and white this week. We saw this trend kept clean and structured, we saw it incorporated into bold patterns, and we saw it overlaid with metal and chains for a hint of grunge.<\/p>\n

Ready to embrace black and white this season?<\/strong> We\u2019re inspired by roomscapes that rely on a black and white palette, especially ones with those bold dark walls we\u2019ve been seeing as a trend over the past year. Add a splash of color in there (perhaps one we\u2019re going to talk about next!) and you\u2019ve got a clean, pulled-together aesthetic that still stands out from the crowd.<\/p>\n

Orange Appeal<\/em><\/h2>\n

This season we saw so many designers highlighting a warm, classic orange in their collections. While a few months ago combining pink and red was very in style, today we\u2019re seeing orange taking its place as the eye-catching color of the moment.<\/p>\n

Adding some orange to your palette makes everything a little more fun.<\/strong> Working this hue into your next design project is probably one of the simplest trends to start incorporating right away. Orange makes a great accent to a monochromatic room, and a hyper-colorful room can use orange as a highlight that won\u2019t get lost in the kaleidoscope.<\/p>\n

Feather Fringe<\/em><\/h2>\n

Fashion designers were flocking to feathers as an accent for their designs at New York Fashion Week. Whether they were bold and colorful or elegant in black and white, feathers are all over womenswear this season.<\/p>\n

Adding a flurry of feathers to your mood board is a fun challenge.<\/strong> There are many ways to weave feathers into interior design, but we\u2019re partial to a layered, elegant approach. Since feathers read as both extravagant and ephemeral, incorporating feathered artwork into a design allows you to make a statement while complementing the rest of the design.<\/p>\n
